RE: CG NEAR MIDDLEBURY/ELKHART, IN

Shipshewnna North is nice. It is the one with the ice cream shop the previous poster mentioned. Shipshewana South is convenient for the flea market.

RE: Garmin Nuvi 260/260W Question

The short answer is "no". Browse on over to http://poi-factory.com for answers to any and all of your Nuvi questions. Also, check out the list of down loadable Point of Interest (POI) files and look at the many posts on how to make POI files for your GPS if that concept is of interest to you.

RE: Garmin 750 GPS

You will love your Nuvi 750. One of its most powerful features is its ability to use custom Point of Interest (POI) files. I have POIs loaded for every Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, interstate rest area, ham radio repeater, etc. for the entire United States. Go to POI-Factory.com for these POI files, hundreds of other POI files, and best of all, information on how to make your own POI files.

RE: Nashville area (+/- 50 miles)

We stayed at the Texas T CG on our last trip North on I-65. Nice enough overnight stop. There is some noise from I-65. There is nothing around the campground in the way of stores, restaurants, or gas stations. We left the CG fairly early and hit Nashville at about 9AM. Bad move. Traffic in Nashville is a nightmare. Be sure you keep alert because several interstates converge there and it is easy to miss a turn to stay on I-65 north.

RE: Eastern Cincinnati

Thanks, I appreciate the replies and I'll try them. There's also a Shells Seafood and Chipotle Mexican Grill close by. I guess those aren't worth mentioning? Those are both chain restaurants. You can Google them and see their menus. HERE is a Google map of some of the more popular restaurants and attractions in the city.

RE: Heading to Ashland WV to ride Hatfield McCoy

Check out the Quadcrew Forum.. I post on that forum as OhioATVer. The Crew held their annual spring ride there this year. A good time was had by all in spite of the continuous rain all weekend. Larry, the campground owner, posts on the forum frequently. Great bunch of folks who will be happy to answer any questions you may have about any of the trail systems at H/M. If you want to ride another system while you are there, check out the Pinnacle Creek system. You could trailer over there in less than an hour from the KOA.

RE: Place to stay in Naples, FL

Kountry Kampinn is a very wooded campground with smaller sites and somewhat narrow roads. It is on a very busy divided highway (RT 951) that is being widened. There is a lot of development along the road, some of it adjacent to the north side of the campground. Lot's of traffic & construction noise. Check out the reviews for the Naples campgrounds http://www.rvparkreviews.com/regions/Florida/Naples.html You may want to consider Neapolitan Cove. This campground changed owners a few years ago and has been totally upgraded. This is not a resort like Pelican Lake, but it is very nice. It is on a main road (US 41) but the traffic is nothing like that on 951. It is not a state park like campground but it is very convenient to anything in the Naples area. Paradise Pointe is also a nice RV park. Any RV park in or convenient to Naples is going to be expensive. Be prepared for hot, humid weather in June. Silver Springs State Park in Ocala is nice.

RE: Sunset King Lake Resort

Crowded sand/grass sites, quite a way off I-10. Many seasonal campers who were very nice. Good wifi. Might be ok for a few days, not a good overnight stop. Small restaurant on site.

RE: HWY 550 Durango to Montrose

maddog, We were in the toad, not the RV. We went in 2004 and I don't remember how long it took. We were doing what has been suggested here - pre-driving the route before taking the RV. Decided NOT to do it. When we went, it was raining. I should have pulled over and waited but didn't. The combination of rain, big drop offs, other drivers with more confidence tailgating or trying to pass, and the switchbacks made for a stressful drive. It is doable, lots of RV's get through the pass just fine. It's just not my thing. Other's mileage may vary. (I was kidding about too scared to buy the tee shirt.)

RE: I-75 S VS. I-65 S to Florida

We travel from SW Ohio to SW Florida and back every year. I much prefer the I-65 route. There is one problem area however - Nashville. Lots of traffic, and I-65, I-40, & I-24 all merge there. Watch the signs and be ready to change lanes on short notice. Try to avoid Nashville during morning and afternoon rush hour.

RE: HWY 550 Durango to Montrose

We drove from Silverton to Ouray in 2004. Been there, done that - too scared to buy the tee shirt - never going back. This summer we are going to Wyoming. Plan on taking US 14 through the Bighorn mountains. Has anyone driven both US 550 and US 14(not 14A) who can compare the two? I don't mind the grades and curves but I can't deal with the drop offs right alongside the pavement. I understand that US 16 from Buffalo to Ten Sleep is often recommended instead of US 14 but we are meeting friends at a campground in the Bighorns so we will have to drive the section of 14 from Ranchester to Burgess Junction at a minimum. We have a 27 ft Class C. Thanks in advance.

RE: Pride RV Resort, NC

We were there two weeks ago. They are upgrading the electric in the entire park. The sites near the road and those near the creek are finished. The pull throughs in the middle are closed until the work is finished. I would check with the park and be sure they will have sites available when you want to be there. It is clean and well cared for but IMHO the sites are a little close. Not a deal breaker however. Also be aware that the area across the creek is now being logged and between the backhoe working on the electric behind us and the chainsaws across the creek, the noise was noticable. WIFI is free and works great.

RE: Topsail Electrical hookups

The best reason for having an adapter is not the possibility of a 50 amp only plug, but the situation which has happened to me several times where the 30 amp plug is used more often and therefore more likely to not be working properly. I second this post. Get an adapter and if the 30 amp plug is chipped, melted, loose, runs hot, etc. use your adapter. It is cheap insurance.

RE: Any experience at Traverse Bay RV Resort

Nice Park. We were there in a 26 ft class C and felt welcome. Free WIFI worked fine. The traffic around Traverse City can be a bear.

Rafter J During Bike Week

Just got off the phone with Rafter J - nice folks. Made a reservation for seven nignts arriving 8/4/08 which is Bike Week. How crowded will it be? Did I make a mistake? If I made a mistake and need to reschedule later in August, when do things wind down from Bike Week? I really want to be there that week but if it is going to be so crowded that we can't enjoy Wind Cave, Jewel Cave, the nature loop, Mt. Rushmore, etc. we can reschedule. Thanks in advance.

Linda, The rvparkreviews.com old reviews are all still there. There is a new feature however. At the bottom of the newer reviews there is a link "Display older reviews for campground" that you have to click.

RE: Port Richey, Fl.

Take a look at Jamar North in New Port Richey and Three Lakes Resort in Hudson. This area of Florida is VERY Busy. The traffic along Rt 19 is horrible. There are a few small beaches in the area but nothing spectacular and not within a mile or so. Not sure if either of these parks meet your $550/month objective.
